Family Story Time

Thursday evenings @ 6:30pm, September – May

Family Story Time, founded and run by Cassy Clarcq, and assisted by her husband, Matt, is a children’s program of discovery, artistic expression and fun! Using picture books as the focus, it is a time for reading, songs, crafts and activities. Each week is a new adventure, whether it’s making and racing boats, conducting science experiments like forming Borax snowflakes, or learning to make fruit salsa! Ideal for children in Preschool through Fourth Grade, parents are encouraged to participate as well, making this a great time for families to enjoy together.

The Family Story Time program series runs the last Thursday in September through the last Thursday in April. Each evening starts at 6:30 pm and runs about 45 minutes to an hour in length, depending on the evening’s activities. Divided into 3 sessions – Fall, Winter, and Spring – each session has a theme with each evening centered around a short selection of books related to that theme.

Several programs have developed out of Family Story Time: The Young Writer’s Contests (Poetry and Short Story), and the Holiday Craft Fair.

  • The Young Writer’s Poetry Contest and Young Writer’s Short Story Contest are now run on alternating years. Held March through April, entries are reviewed and assessed based on a rubric. Each participant receives a certificate, and the winners receive a small prize. A celebration is held at the library the last Thursday in April/first Thursday in May at 6:30 pm with a guest author presenting, and winners reading their works out loud. Refreshments are served.
  • The Holiday Craft Fair, held the first Thursday after Thanksgiving from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, is a great way to kick off the holiday season! Children of all ages are able to make crafts at several stations, so they have gifts to give for the holidays. This free event includes a wrapping station, games, and refreshments.

Look for other special events, such as author visitations and workshops!

Sounds like a program for you? Stop by the library on a Thursday evening and join us!
